Experienced in a broad variety of significant positions in the Government and Defense Industry, David A. Kier established a consulting practice in August 2013. His clients include the Office of the Director for National Intelligence, several leading defense contractors and several smaller defense and intelligence-oriented companies.
Kier joined Areté Associates as President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2009 while continuing in his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors, a position he has held since 2004. Areté Associates is an advanced science and engineering company that provides innovative, advanced technology solutions to the most challenging technical problems faced by the United States.
Following his retirement from a 35-year career in the Federal Service, Kier joined the Lockheed Martin Corporation in October 2001 as the Vice President and Managing Director for Lockheed Martin’s Force Protection activities. In this position, he was responsible for managing a matrix organization of all Lockheed Martin air and missile defense; homeland defense, nuclear chemical and biological protection and infrastructure security.
A native of Pennsylvania, Kier is a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College where he received a Bachelor of Science in physics. He has done extensive graduate work in Systems Engineering for the University of Southern California. After a tour in the U.S. Army, he joined the NASA Flight Research Center in 1966 as a flight test engineer.
The recipient of numerous medals and awards during his career, Kier is one of a very few individuals to receive both the CIA’s and the Intelligence Community’s Distinguished Service Medal for technical and managerial accomplishments.
